Academic Dean of Regis College / Dean of the Faculty


Job Summary:


The Academic Dean is the chief academic officer of Regis College of Regis University. Regis College is one of three colleges of Regis University, a Jesuit Catholic university in Denver, Colorado. It is a mission-focused, teaching-oriented liberal arts, sciences, and pre-professional college that serves both traditional and post-traditional students in a wide range of educational formats. Regis College has an increasingly diverse student body with traditional undergraduate students 47% students of color, 33% Latinx/Latino students, and 26% first-generation college students in Fall 2020. The Academic Dean serves as leader, advocate, and colleague of the College faculty, staff, and students. The Dean is charged with advancing the mission of Regis College and the University; providing a forward-looking vision for the College that reflects creativity, a clear commitment to innovative, student-centered educational practices, a commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion, and an understanding of changes and trends in higher education; enhancing the academic excellence of all aspects of Regis College's programs; supporting the integration of scholarship and teaching; and securing and managing resources critical to its academic and mission advancement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:


The Academic Dean of Regis College will provide a forward-looking, long-term academic vision and leadership for Regis College, with a commitment to a University-wide learning community that emphasizes academic rigor, respect for diversity, inclusion of those often marginalized, individual attention to students, and the Jesuit concept of cura personalis or care of the whole person.



Academic Leadership: The Academic Dean serves as a recognized intellectual and academic leader in the University, Regis College, and the community; provides vision for the College and University in a rapidly changing academic landscape; ensures and continuously enhances the quality and integrity of all college curricula and programs; seeks innovative ways to enhance the student experience using remote-delivery and in-person technology with a range of learning models; enhances and supports scholarship and creative activity; supervises and supports the staff and programs of the College; and serves as a member of the President's Advisory Council (PAC), the Provost's Executive Council (PEC), the Dean's Council, and similar groups.



Student Experience: The Academic Dean provides overall direction to Regis College in every aspect of the experiences of an increasingly diverse student body: how well they are informed and advised during their enrollment in the University; the breadth, depth, currency, and relevance of the learning they are offered; their education through co-curricular offerings; support provided to encourage success and retention; and their preparation for meaningful careers through experiential learning. The Academic Dean is committed to supporting the success of populations underrepresented in higher education including, but not limited to, students of color and first-generation students. The Academic Dean oversees the development and implementation of student access, enrollment, and retention plans. The Academic Dean also works closely with Admissions and Student Affairs to support recruiting, to support diverse-student access to Regis, to ensure that students are well informed and advised prior to matriculation, and to provide innovative services and programs that promote learning, personal development and well-being, and academic success.



Mission Advancement: The Academic Dean interprets, supports, and advances the comprehensive educational mission of Regis College and Regis University and provides specific, visible leadership and perspectives with respect to the Jesuit Catholic tradition, education for justice, community diversity and inclusion, and learning through service.



Faculty Colleagueship: As a member of the faculty, the Academic Dean fosters a University learning community characterized by trust, support, mutual respect, and high morale; works with the faculty in the context of shared governance; leads mission-focused faculty recruiting and development efforts; recruits and retains a diverse faculty; serves as a key decision-maker with respect to faculty hiring, advancement, and tenure; directly supervises the various academic school, division, department, and program deans/chairs/directors; has a record of teaching scholarship and service commensurate with Professor rank in Regis College; supports faculty scholarship; and teaches periodically in Regis College.



Staff Leadership: As supervisor of the College's staff, the Academic Dean recognizes the important role that staff play in Regis College and fosters a college community that includes staff members, respects the differences among staff roles provides support, recruits and retains a diverse staff, and cultivates high morale.



Resource Stewardship: The Academic Dean engages with University Advancement to raise funds to support College initiatives; plans and advocates for appropriate financial and other resources for College programs; and manages the expense budgets of Regis College. The Academic Dean provides an innovative vision for the College with respect to resources and revenue in a changing national academic landscape. The Academic Dean will participate in activities to advance the college and the university with external constituencies including community partners, alumni, parents, friends, and donors, including direct involvement in fundraising.



Relationships: The Academic Dean maintains open and positive relations with Regis College faculty and staff bodies; establishes and nurtures effective collaborative relationships with the other deans of the University, with members of the executive staff, with local and national organizations, and with support service personnel throughout the University; and serves as needed on University and College committees and task groups.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:




  • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university and credentials appropriate for appointment to senior faculty rank.

  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for the Jesuit Catholic liberal arts mission of the University as well as the Jesuit way of proceeding, which is collaborative and discerning as the community seeks ever new ways to adapt its mission to a changing world.

  • Demonstrated institutional and academic contributions through a meaningful combination of service, teaching, and scholarship. (Note: Candidate may justify weights in each of these categories based on roles/responsibilities.)

  • Demonstrated experience with and commitment to equity, diversity, and antiracism.

  • Works well with others in a collegial environment and possess the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written work.

  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities.

  • Must be demonstrably prepared to provide mission, academic, and programmatic vision and leadership in concert with both the Regis College and University communities, and to merit the trust and confidence of those communities.

  • Experience leading in complex organizations.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Preferred qualifications are considered in combination with the demonstrated degree of quality of minimum qualifications.

  • Experience at a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) or similar experience with an institution or program focused on fostering success of students of color.

  • Experience with post-traditional student populations and online education.

  • Experience with both undergraduate and graduate student populations.

  • Experience with enrollment and financial management.

  • Experience in resource development, fundraising and working with external constituencies including alumni, donors, and the community.

Among all Regis College traditional, undergraduate students in Fall 2020 47% were students of color, 33% were Latinx/Latino students, and 26% self-identified themselves as first-generation college students. Among all Regis College post-traditional and graduate students in Fall 2020 29% were students of color, 13% were Latinx/Latino students, and 5% self-identified themselves as first-generation college students.
