Assistant Professor of Engineering

Penn State Hazleton invites applications for a faculty position, Assistant Professor of Engineering (Tenure-Track, 36 weeks) to begin August 2020, or as negotiated. Teach three courses (9 credits) each semester using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods in the B.S. program in Engineering - Alternative Energy and Power Generation. Teaching assignments will include engineering courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum including Engineering Mechanics (Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials), Nuclear Engineering, Computer Programming for Engineers, and Engineering Design. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening, and/or Saturday classes as needed. Establish a high-quality research program that includes publishing in refereed journals and can involve undergraduate students. Participate in professional organizations and in course, curriculum, and program development. Advise students and provide career guidance. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities. Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. ABD considered if completed prior to start date. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Engineering Education will be considered. Candidates whose research will support the departmental focus on alternative energy systems will be given preference. Practical engineering design experience is an advantage. Evidence of potential in research and publication is expected. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. Our residential campus is located on a wooded ridge near the juncture of I-80 and I-81 in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Students and faculty at Penn State Hazleton have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research.
