Dean of the College of Science and Engineering

Wilkes University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. The University is seeking an experienced academic leader who has the vision and leadership skills to guide the College to new levels of achievement and recognition for an integrated approach to science and engineering.

Wilkes University is an independent, nonsectarian institution offering degree programs through six schools: The College of Science and Engineering, the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, the J.S. Sidhu School of Business, the Passan School of Nursing, and the School of Education. Collectively, these schools currently enroll 5,276 students, of which about 40 percent are undergraduate, and sixty percent are graduate and first professional students. Its Carnegie classification is Doctoral/Professional. Wilkes University is located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, a city of 40,000 on the western fringe of the Poconos on the Susquehanna River. The surrounding region offers considerable natural beauty and recreational opportunities, including numerous ski resorts, concert venues, water parks and state parks, and is a two-hour drive from both Philadelphia and New York City.

The Dean of the College of Science and Engineering presents an outstanding opportunity for leadership of a faculty and academic programs that are poised for growth. The ideal candidate is an established or emerging leader who will be able to guide the college to new levels of achievement and recognition. We seek an individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills who can unify and inspire a diverse faculty, promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, and pursue opportunities for growth. The Dean will be an effective external face of the College and strengthen relationships with employers, alumni, and community leaders. The CSE Dean will also work collaboratively with colleagues on the Dean's Council and new Senior Vice President and Provost, Dr. David Ward to develop a strong leadership team for the academic program for the entire University.

The successful candidate will have, at a minimum, a terminal degree in a discipline in sciences, engineering, or a related discipline; experience as an academic leader at the department chair level or higher that includes leadership of personnel and budget management; and a record of teaching, service, and scholarship commensurate with appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
