Education Program Manager

The Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEI) is seeking an energetic, dynamic, and motivated individual to manage the Institute's education program. The Institute is an outreach department of the College of Engineering with four outfacing areas of serviceeducation, energy management and procurement, engineering services, and facility condition assessments. The successful candidate will function as the Institute's Education Program Manager and lead the education program and related services while working collaboratively with staff and leaders in the department's other service areas. The Institute's education offerings include adult education short courses and workshops focused on engineering topics covering boilers, electrical safety and maintenance, mechanical, and facility management; ProFM professional credential coaching and training; visible emissions testing and certification (smoke school); and a broad array of facility management courses. The department's education program is dynamic and serves a critical need to our clients at both the state and federal level. The successful candidate will be expected to expand the Institute's education program offerings to meet our clients' ever growing and changing needs.

The Education Program Manager serves on the Institute's leadership team and consults on a variety of issues associated with strategic and operational management, participates in strategic planning, and leads strategic initiatives related to education.

Extensive travel is required, primarily overnight within the continental U.S. The position is based in State College, PA; however, alternate work arrangements may be considered.

Requirements:
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills over multiple media formats.
  • Supervisory experience as the position supervises staff, contract instructors, and has matrix management influence over Institute staff instructors and the Education Program Associate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of adult pedagogy and education technology.
  • Integrity, dedication to excellence and outstanding customer service, and a mutual respect and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Preferences:
  • Experience in federal governmental online contracting and reporting systems.
  • Strong foundation in facilities engineering and management.

This position will be filled at a Level 4 and typically requires a Master's degree or higher and 8+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in an engineering discipline and an advanced degree in workforce development is strongly preferred. Hands-on experience with adult education and facilities management is strongly preferred.

The position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply; security clearances may be required for access to client sites.

Applications must include a cover letter and resume.

This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. The Institute has been providing facilities management, operations technical advice, and adult education opportunities to its clients since 1947.

Our department is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusion that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive. We value inclusion as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission.
