ABOUT THE POSITION
The Long Beach Community College District is looking to hire one (1) full-time tenure track EngineeringInstructor commencing with the 2020 fall semester. The primary teaching assignment involves instructing Engineering courses such as Introduction to Engineering, Graphics, Electrical Circuits, Statics, and Computer Methods and may also include mathematics courses as needed.This position is designed to provide curriculum and program development to assist the Department's degree and certificates awards through improving and expanding the engineering courses. The assignment also includes working with other departments and transfer colleges to develop articulation pathways and career and training opportunities.The faculty member is required to participate in department, division, and the college's shared governance committees.This position requires the faculty member to collaborate across disciplines and leverage resources to support an active student-success oriented experience which includes "hands-on" practical learning activities.In addition, it will require participation in ongoing professional development.

The teaching assignment may be at our beautiful Liberal Arts campus, state of the art Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
All candidates must demonstrate
Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Candidates must also meet one of the following qualifications under 1 - 5.
1. A Master's degree in any field of engineering.
2. A Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering AND a Master's degree in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry or geology.
3. A Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering with a professional engineer's license is an alternative qualification for this discipline.
4. Possess a valid California Community College instructor credential, specific to the discipline, per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990).
5. Possess a combination of education and professional experience that is equivalent to the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit a Supplemental Equivalency Application (Download PDF reader) in addition to all other required materials.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Evidence of an ability to address and adapt to the instructional needs of varying student levels, using a variety of innovative, culturally relevant and responsive teaching strategies to encourage retention and student success in a wide range of Engineering courses.

20 or more semester units of upper-division or graduate courses in Mathematics or Statistics.

Ability and/or willingness to design an effective learning environment through a variety of innovative instructional strategies or technologies in order to maximize student success.

Teaching experience at the community college level and a commitment to the mission of the community college.

Ability to engage students with hands-on activities.

Strong academic achievement in either graduate-level mathematics or engineering.

Participation in decision making efforts, both at the department and college-wide level that may involve assuming a leadership role.

Ability to work well with colleagues, to be innovative, and to see tasks through to completion.

Two years of recent experience working in the engineering field.

A desire to be a part of and an ability to contribute creatively to the development and growth of a learning environment involving science, technology engineering, and math (STEM), including career and technical education (CTE) programs.

Possess a working knowledge of student learning outcomes assessment and the ability to create and revise curriculum, and to develop instructional materials.

Working knowledge of engineering standards and software currently used in the engineering field.

Experience in designing and running instructional hands-on engineering laboratory experiments.

Evidence of participation in student success initiatives in a post-secondary setting.

Evidence of an ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.

Evidence and ability to apply scientific and mathematics knowledge to create solutions for various technical problems.

Experience in the production and design of products and/or systems.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
