Faculty Position in Engineering Science and Mechanics and the Materials Research Institute

The Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics (ESM) at The Pennsylvania State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in the area of advanced scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM). All academic ranks will be considered. Candidates who enrich our diversity are strongly encouraged to apply. Engineering Science fosters a highly interdisciplinary environment, promoting collaborations across the engineering disciplines, materials sciences, mechanics, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and biological sciences.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in advanced S/TEM with interests/applications in exploring new physics, materials science, physical/chemical processes, and the convergence of the materials and life Sciences. Areas of special interest include in-situ/environmental operando techniques; materials for quantum optics/computing; 2D materials; chemical catalysis; electrochemical charging; crystalline growth; phase transitions; and mechanical behavior. Candidates will have access to Penn State's cutting-edge microscopes (Titan3 G2, Talos F200X, and the FEI Titan Krios cryo-TEM) in the Materials Research Institute and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ESM and offer new courses in the area of his/her expertise. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in an engineering science-related discipline, and track record of accomplishments in both research and teaching.
