Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Surveying Engineering

Penn State Wilkes-Barre invites applications for a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Surveying Engineering. This is a 36 week, non-tenure line, limited-term (multi-year) appointment to begin August 2022 with potential for re-appointment.

Responsibilities include:
  • Teach courses and associated labs each semester in Surveying and related disciplines using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods
  • Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed
  • Participate in course, curriculum, and program development
  • Advise students and provide career guidance
  • Participate in campus, university, and community service activities
  • Engage in activities and professional organizations to stay current in the discipline


This position will be filled as either a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor. A Masters degree in Surveying Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Surveying, Geodetic Science, Civil Engineering, or related discipline is required to be considered for the rank of Lecturer. A Ph.D. in one of the the previously stated disciplines or a related field is required to be considered for the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor; willing to consider ABD with appointment based on degree held at time of hiring. Academic specialization in one of the following: Construction Surveying, Land Information Systems, Photogrammetry, GNSS, PLSS, or Terrestrial Laser Scanning. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is desired. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience required. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. Professional license in surveying in Pennsylvania or willingness to acquire in two years is preferred.

Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research.
