Position Summary:
The School of Civil and Construction Engineering is seeking an Online Programs Manager. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The School of Civil and Construction Engineering (CCE) is launching two new ECampus degree programs and sees a bright future in growing both in-person and online program offerings.

The CCE Online Programs Manager will manage development, launch, tracking, operation, forecasting and continuous improvement of CCE online programs. The incumbent serves as a member of the CCE leadership team, reports to the School Head, and collaborates with advisors, associate school heads, school operations manager, faculty, the senior assistant dean for online programs, and a wide range of colleagues from OSU's College of Engineering (COE) and ECampus. This position will ensure successful and equitable delivery of CCE's ECampus programs in support of student success and good stewardship of university resources, and will work with CCE leadership, the College of Engineering and ECampus to plan, develop, and prioritize future CCE online offerings, including individual courses, microcredentials, certificates and undergraduate/graduate degree programs.

Duties will include online course scheduling in coordination with the in-person course scheduling, coordination with the associate school head and school head to schedule faculty teaching workload, collaboration with the school operations manager and human resources colleagues for faculty and graduate teaching assistant/undergraduate learning assistant appointments, and provision of online student support services in collaboration with in-person and ECampus advisors.

The Online Programs Manager will be the single point of contact for existing, new, and future CCE Ecampus programs, and will perform other administrative duties. They will work with the CCE Industry Liaison, OSU Career Services, industry groups, and student groups to ensure that online students have the same levels of experiential learning and industry engagement as the in-person students. The Online Programs Manager is responsible for building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within the school, college, OSU, industry, Ecampus, and the community at-large.

The Online Programs Manager directs strategic and day-to-day operations, including course and faculty/planning, enrollment and course offering and sequencing strategy. The position will collaborate with human resources/budgetary management personnel, and is responsible for continuous improvement, meeting/managing course and program enrollment goals, and conducting program management for the school's current, in development and future online programs.

They are the single point of contact for developing and implementing CCE's online programs in line with program goals and objectives. They are responsible for ensuring student processes are clear and concise for Ecampus students and applicable services are communicated to distance learners, and for ensuring processes are clear and transparent for faculty. They will work with CCE leadership to prioritize development of new and redeveloped ECampus courses and programs in cooperation with faculty, the College and ECampus. The Online Programs Manager will also support data collection, measurement, and reporting for the CCE online programs, including special initiatives for reporting to philanthropic supporters.

The Online Programs Manager is an innovative and collaborative leader who will be responsible for managing the online programs, who will be responsible for creating dynamic strategies to promote online programs and student success. This may include supporting industry events, recruiting, student clubs, student support services, updating/enhancing student communications and applicable website content.

Position Duties
25% Online Programs ManagementManage all aspects of current and future CCE online programs. Maintain continual communication with faculty, advisors, students, industry, and the broader community regarding all online programs within CCE. This includes leading the planning, developing and optimizing the scheduling of ECampus courses, ensuring courses are slated via Ecampus offerings to fulfill student progression, and balancing course schedule to offer necessary Ecampus courses each academic year. Ensure that ECampus offerings are harmonized with in-person offerings. Promote programs. Oversee communication of program policies and announcements to students and faculty. Develop financial tracking system per COE direction to track, forecast and report on financial aspects of delivery of online programs. Provide regular reporting to school head for both internal and external audiences.

25% Faculty Instructional and Development LogisticsServe as a liaison with faculty, communicate all CCE, COE and OSU policies, and manage/oversee the mapping of course development, course instruction, and course redevelopment to CCE teaching workload planning and implementation. Manage the processes for appointing online-only instructors, and work collaboratively to plan all needed faculty appointments for online/in-person instructors. Ensure that faculty capacity is mapped correctly and efficiently against the online programs being offered. Work with faculty in the development, re-development, teaching of online courses for current and approved programs. Support CCEs strategic online planning, nurture faculty interest in development and planning of future programs. Ensure that ECampus fund transfers occur in a timely fashion and implement tracking system for this aspect. Expand programs for future degrees, minors, certificates, microcredentials, and professional development.

25% Student Services and LogisticsCommunicate with prospective and current students and alumni regarding online programs. Collaborate with CCE colleagues for the recruiting and appointment of ECampus course graduate research assistants (GRAs) and undergraduate learning assistants (ULAs). Field questions regarding the online programs, content, schedules, and requirements. Serve as the CCE point of contact for questions stemming from Ecampus regarding student support, courses, syllabi, marketing inquiries, and more. Develop peer mentoring program for ECampus students using paid student workers. Troubleshoot any on-boarding processes for the students within the online programs, and communicate and collaborate any concerns with the Advisors, Head Advisor, Senior Assistant Dean in the college and Associate School Head for Undergraduate Affairs to ensure programs are being fully supported. Maintain relationships to promote and develop program missions and strategies including support services for students. Coordinate with other school and college staff to resolve student conduct issues and grievances.

15% School Leadership and Administrative ActivitiesServe on CCE Leadership Team and develop new systems for data collection, data mining, tracking, and reporting to assist with short- and long- term decision making, assess progress toward program goals and objectives, foster initiatives that bridge on-campus and online student events or needs (i.e., virtual events, new industry events, clubs, include online students in current school events, etc.). Prepare marketing materials for internal CCE program promotion, events, and reporting. Attend monthly school meetings and provide period reporting. Periodic interaction with CCE Industry Advisory Board and CEF Board. Attend CCE curriculum committee meetings as needed.

5% SupervisionInterview, hire, train, direct and perform other supervisory tasks for 2-4 student employees who serve as peer mentors and conduct basic support duties.

5% Professional DevelopmentProfessional development may entail training (e.g., OSU Search Advocate program) or projects identified with supervisor to elevate new learning and expansion of skill sets. It may also include participation in local, regional, or national conferences or working groups focused on university online program delivery.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited degree program in education, business, health, sociology, communications, science, engineering, or related field.
  • Seven years of professional experience in a university administrative and/or advising position focused on student success and progress to graduation.
  • Experience and proven professionalism working with internal and external audiences, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience working in continuous improvement environment and familiarity with implementation of process improvements to improve efficiency and increase student success.
  • Experience working in a setting with multiple priorities.
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Self-directed and motivated with the ability to work in a collaborative/team environment.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); ability and willingness to learn university data systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and proven success in facilitating connections and relationships.

  • Masters degree in higher education administration, business administration or other related discipline.
  • Experience recruiting, advising and retaining both undergraduate and graduate students and ensuring student success targets met.
  • Experience working with international students and students from a wide range of backgrounds and supporting their success and feeling of belonging.
  • Experience in course scheduling, classroom scheduling, strategic recruitment of students, management of learning assistant assignments, and communications with prospective students.
