Professor (all ranks) in Experimental Fluid Dynamics

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy seek applicants for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in mechanical and aerospace engineering with emphasis in experimental fluid dynamics. The appointment will be at the assistant, associate, or full professor rank commensurate with the candidate's experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2020. Although appointments may be in any of Fulton Engineering's six schools, the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy is currently most involved in fluid dynamics research.

Specific areas of expertise and interest include but are not limited to experimental techniques for turbulent flows, multiphase flows, biological flows, micro-fluidic flows, atmospheric fluid dynamics, and AI-enabled fluid experimentation and flow control. Applicants who develop novel experimental techniques and/or apply experimental methods to study flows in the above mentioned or related areas are encouraged to apply. Research in the areas of facility with numerical methods/or analytical techniques that contribute to the development of advanced methods or enable collaboration with experts in those fields will be considered favorably.

We seek applicants who will contribute to our programs and will leverage investments by the university in promoting interdisciplinary teaching and research. These investments include, among others, collaborations with the ASU Space Technology and Science (NewSpace) Initiative (http://newspace.asu.edu/), the Biodesign Institute (https://biodesign.asu.edu/), LightWorks (https://sustainability.asu.edu/lightworks/), Decision Theater Network (http://dt.asu.edu/), the Global Security Initiative (https://globalsecurity.asu.edu/), in addition to others.

Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, foster and contribute to an inclusive work environment, and undertake service activities.

Required qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in mechanical or aerospace engineering or a field closely related to the stated research and teaching focus of this position by the time of appointment;
Evidence of excellence in research, as appropriate to the candidate's rank; and
Evidence of excellence in teaching, as appropriate to the candidate's rank
