Position Information:
The Departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering, at California State University, Chico are collecting applications for part-time and full-time temporary teaching positions. The positions in both departments are for the Spring semester, which begins on January 16, 2020. Additional positions may be available for the Fall semester, which begins on August 18, 2020.

The Position: Temporary Faculty (Lecturer)
Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is either:
- a Master of Science or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems or in a related area from an accredited university by the time of employment
or
- a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems or in a related field from an accredited university and five or more years of industry experience.

Applicants must have:

  • a strong commitment to teaching with a proven record of or the potential for developing innovative pedagogical approaches to courses, labs, and projects.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position:
This lecturer position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching at undergraduate level and graduate level (Computer Science only). Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Recruitment Preferences:
Candidates in all areas of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Computer Information Systems are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates in networking, machine learning, digital design, embedded and computer systems, web development, mobile development, and cyber security (hardware-based). Applicants with one or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Electrical Engineering are also preferred.

The Department of Computer Science offers an ABET accredited bachelors degree in Computer Science, an ABET accredited bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems, and a masters degree in Computer Science. The Department has approximately 400 undergraduate computer science majors, 100 computer information systems majors, and 20 computer science graduate students.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers an ABET accredited bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, and an ABET accredited bachelors degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. The Department has approximately 250 undergraduate majors.

Benefits:
CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period.
