The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department invites applications for a tenure-track assistant-professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021. We seek an individual who will strengthen our research and educational programs in the area of thermal sciences. Research areas of interest include but are not limited to energy and thermal science/engineering, alternative energy systems, combustion, thermal transport across multiple length and time scales, and multidisciplinary thermal-system design. Candidates should be capable of teaching core thermodynamics, heat transfer, and transport courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The position will be at the Assistant Professor rank. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited university in a relevant science or engineering discipline. The successful candidate should maintain a strong publication record, develop a vigorous externally funded research program, recruit and supervise graduate students, provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including core and specialized courses in the thermal sciences, and contribute their leadership, as well as collaborative and innovative approaches in an increasingly successful thermal sciences program within the department and the university and to the engineering profession.

Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute towards increasing the number and quality of students, including members of underrepresented groups, pursuing graduate degrees in thermal sciences and related programs. Information about the Department is given at the website: http://engineering.uci.edu/dept/mae.

Applications should include a cover letter; a description of research, teaching, and service interests, including ability to contribute to departmental and interdisciplinary programs; a curriculum vitae; a separate statement that addresses past, current, and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion; the names and contact information of at least four references; and the Authorization to Release Information (*). References will not be contacted until a later stage of consideration, after consultation with the candidate.

Applications received by January 15, 2021 are assured full consideration, but the search will continue until the position is filled. Applications should be submitted electronically at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF06468.

With this commitment as well as a commitment to addressing all forms of academic misconduct, UC Irvine conducts institutional reference checks for candidate finalists to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer of appointment into Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full). The institutional reference checks involve contacting the administration of the applicant's previous institution(s) to ask whether there have been substantiated findings of misconduct that would violate the University's Faculty Code of Conduct. To implement this process, UC Irvine requires all candidates of Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled Authorization to Release Information into AP RECRUIT as part of their application.
