Colorado School of Mines - Assistant Professor, Quantum Devices (Fall 2026): As part of three faculty hires in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Physics, the Department of Electrical Engineering seeks applicants with expertise in the engineering of quantum technologies who can bridge fundamental quantum principles with applied electrical engineering. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: quantum electronic, microwave, and photonic devices (integrated and heterogeneously integrated platforms; front-end and back-end design and development); cryogenic quantum systems and instrumentation (supporting device performance and scalability); quantum metrology systems (enabling precision measurement of physical quantities and control of quantum states); and quantum applications enabled by such technologies (qubit control and readout systems, quantum sensors, quantum memories, and quantum communication platforms). Candidates are expected to develop an externally funded research program and teach and mentor students at all levels. Mines is home to one of the nation's first MS programs in Quantum Engineering, the new Quantum COmmons hub, and CURIE at the Edgar Experimental Mine, and is a key partner in the Elevate Quantum consortium. In addition to strengthening our leadership in quantum information science and engineering and teaching core electrical engineering topics, the successful candidate will have opportunities to engage in the creation of our new BS program in quantum systems engineering, the first of its kind in the US.
