Job Description:

Madison College is hiring an Engineering Technician to support electronic product development!

Join our innovative research team to aid in the development and testing of circuits for Antarctic atmospheric data collection. The Engineering Technician will assist with coding, testing, and integration of sensors within microprocessor architectures to advance accurate, efficient, and sustainable atmospheric observation systems. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applied electronics, coding, and environmental data research while contributing to Madison College's commitment to innovation and sustainability.

This is a part-time, hourly, project-based position. Schedule and hours will be determined based on project needs and candidate availability.

Position Details: This position supports the development of equipment for weather and climate telemetry data collection and research in support of the National Science Foundation Antarctic Automatic Weather Station project.

Position Duration: This position is a grant funded, limited term position through September 30, 2026. Renewal is contingent on ongoing funding.

Schedule/Location: This hourly position works in person, 25 hours per week at our Truax Campus. General working hours are flexible between the hours of 9am to 8pm Monday through Friday.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on embedded sensors, circuits, and atmospheric data to assist in advancing the development of accurate and reliable observation systems.
  • Assist in investigating circuit and software design approaches to ensure solutions are aligned with project goals and performance requirements.
  • Assist the development and implementation of code for sensor integration within the microprocessor architecture to enable seamless data collection and processing.
  • Assist in the design, execution, and evaluation of hardware and software tests to confirm functionality, improve reliability, and meet desired outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team-based development environment to leverage diverse expertise and accelerate project success.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of research, development, and testing activities to ensure transparency, knowledge sharing, and continuity of work.
  • Contributes to an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.
  • Adheres to college policies, directives and work rules while maintaining a commitment to the college's mission, vision and values.
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of soldering thru-hole and surface mount technology and a basic understanding of Ohm's Law. Ability to read basic c-language software and basic schematics.
  • Knowledge of data collection and assessment methods.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills to define a problem, analyze that problem using evidence and suggest corrective actions.
  • Ability to verify compliance of grant activities with internal and external policies and procedures related to grant administration.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience
  • Candidates with IPC J-STD-001 preferred
