About the Position:
Facilities Management is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University's facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Building Service Engineers team as the Lead Building Service Engineer. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under general supervision of the Supervising Building Service Engineer, the Lead Building Service Engineer works with and is in charge of a small group or crew of skilled Building Service Engineers and semi-skilled assistants involved in completing work assignments.

Provides lead work direction to several Journey-level crafts workers and semi-skilled assistants. Lays out and coordinates Job workflow. Prepares materials lists and orders supplies for jobs. Completes Lead Building Service Engineer work assignments with ancillary project planning responsibilities. Operates, maintains, services, troubleshoots, repairs, and inspects the mechanical equipment and components related to the central plant including the trigeneration plant absorption chillers and turbine. Operates, maintains, services, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and inspects a full range of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, mechanical, and related systems and components throughout the campus facilities. Serves as the lead and performs responsibilities in the absence of the Supervising Building Service Engineer.

This is a key position that cares for campus buildings and systems to support the University's mission, vision, and values in higher education. The Lead Building Service Engineer will interact with a diverse group of individuals, works well in a team environment, understands the balance of sharing duties, taking ownership, and will take the initiative to complete tasks as needed. This Lead Building Service Engineer takes pride in every aspect of their work to create and maintain an excellent learning environment at Cal State University Fullerton. Essential Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience as a journey-level Building Service Engineer that included some work or project coordination responsibilities. Thorough knowledge of high and low pressure boilers, and heating, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and other mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in the operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment. Thorough mechanical and technical knowledge. Working knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques project sequencing. Thorough knowledge of the applicable state and federal safety codes and regulations pertaining to mechanical and HVAC systems. General knowledge of ventilation principles, thermal dynamics, and closed water systems. Working knowledge of energy management systems including the ability to understand and use system features.

Ability to install, operate and repair HVAC equipment and systems. Ability to lead, instruct and coordinate the work of a small group or crew of skilled and semi-skilled workers. Ability to provide direction on the interpretation and use of blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications to the work crew. Ability to accurately estimate costs, supplies and materials needed for jobs and projects, prepare materials lists, ensure work is performed in sequence, and inspect and assess work to ensure it meets requirements and specifications. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to maintain computerized maintenance management systems and records and prepare more complex reports. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization. Ability to use a computer and a variety of computer-based tools including Microsoft applications. Ability to create reports and maintain equipment logs.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a large, institutional facility. Experience with Andover Infiniti EMS and BMS. Experience with PLC Logic controls. Experience with, turbine generators and absorption chillers, centrifugal chillers, pumping stations and associated piping and piping components, thermal energy storage systems, and HVAC.
