About the Position:
The Division of Information Technology strives to be a strategic, innovative and best-in-class IT organization that provides a leading-edge technology environment for students, faculty and staff to advance the University's mission, vision and goals. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Centralized Information Technology team as the Operating Systems Analyst - Career. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Provides deskside, telephone, and email consultative support to tenure-track and part-time faculty, teaching associates, graduate and undergraduate students, staff, and managers in the Computer Science and Engineering departments. Functions as a liaison between campus IT and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Manages content and administers users and permissions on college and department servers, including license servers. Provides onsite presence to support audio and visual technology components in laboratories, classrooms, and department or college special events. Performs tasks to accommodate deployment, maintenance and repairs of computer equipment and devices to department or college including receiving and tracking inventory, preparing computer systems, and installations, providing reports for the status of devices on campus, and managing warranty and return merchandise authorizations of computer equipment. Administers accounts for department devices in Microsoft network environment. Gives recommendations for items for department and college purchases. Purchases or assists in purchasing technology-related supplies and manages inventory to ensure business continuity. Responsible for inventory and maintenance of technological equipment. Managing the licensing of the application servers for the department and performing routine security updates to those servers. Routinely updates managers regarding progress on assigned and unassigned projects. Supporting Virtual Labs and the applications that run on the cloud. Provides resolution to computing questions either over the telephone, via email, or on the field. Tracking and reporting on customer service requests and contacts.

Provides system support for operating systems and software including but not limited to Windows operating systems, Apple operating system, Linux operating system, desktop applications (Office suite, browsers, etc.), mobile devices (iOS, Android), providing the first line of support for ERP applications, provide support custom web-based applications. Ensure operating system software is properly installed, tested, and tuned to maximize operating efficiency. Incumbent updates lead and management regarding progress on assigned projects and make recommendations for improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of work processes and service delivery methods based upon direct experience in the position and performs other duties as necessary.

Manages daily operations of multiple computer labs efficiently and effectively with a focus on the College of Engineering and Computer Science departments, ensure continued operations of all equipment, coordinate network support with campus IT, adapt to new technology on both hardware and software, and provide computing support for faculty, students, and staff.

Manages daily operations of multiple computer labs with more than 200 computers and more than 100 Engineering applications as well as the installation, maintenance, and support of associated computer programs for on-campus and online degree programs. With new and emerging topics such as Geographic Information Systems added to the curriculum, the Operating Systems Analyst - Career has the responsibility to support the IT needs of the instructional labs and install and maintain related tools and simulators. Provides technical support for the engineering survey classes and transportation engineering classes. With emerging research areas and faculty interest in these areas, the Operating Systems Analyst - Career has the responsibility to provide technical support to faculty in their areas of research interest. Ability to research new products and releases such as productivity tools. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field PLUS two years of relevant full-time experience or the equivalent part-time experience. Eight years of relevant full-time experience may be substituted for the previously listed education and experience requirement. Functional knowledge of the specialty area demonstrated by an understanding and use of advanced principles and theories. Ability to integrate work related knowledge to address problems. Demonstrated competency in applying standard and non-standard technology applications and exploring and adapting changing technology. Ability to independently apply technical judgment, recognize problems, use reasoning and logic to establish possible causes, interpret and apply theories and principles, generate alternative solutions, and implement a plan of action for the best resolution. Ability to develop solutions where precedents do not always exist. Ability to be proactive, anticipate outcomes, and consequences of different approaches and make modifications to action plans. Ability to utilize reflective listening skills when working with others and interpret and communicate information. Assists others in completing assignments and provides work direction and training to others on new skills and procedures. Ability to plan and work on shared projects. Strong troubleshooting skills to respond to hardware and software problems. Possession of excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical knowledge to functional units.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in computer programming, troubleshooting and repair. Several years of progressively responsible experience in hardware and software systems management related to microcomputers and computer networking systems. Thorough knowledge of minicomputer and microcomputer equipment and operating systems including their capabilities and the interfacing of hardware and software. Experience with Unix, DOS, Apple, LAN-Manager to write program specifications and implement the programs; analyze data and situations. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the college community. Knowledge of CT and/or Java, ASP/HSP, HS/APACHE, and web services. Experience supporting Linux, Solaris, Windows physical servers and VMs.
