Position Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering and Business at Gannon University invites applications for two (2) tenure-track positions for Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. The nine-month appointment will begin in August 2023. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering courses, develop and implement a sustainable research program, and will have a key role in developing pioneering industry collaborations and research initiatives by engaging with internal/external program stakeholders.

The faculty member will work collaboratively with colleagues, deliver instruction, advise students, engage in scholarly activities in keeping with the Boyer Model of Scholarship (as is appropriate to the application and receipt of tenure and promotion at Gannon), and engage in University, professional, and community service activities. The successful candidate must be able to support and promote the University's inclusive Mission, its Catholic identity, and its liberal arts and professional education traditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The functions below are detailed in the faculty handbook in Volume IV of the Institutional Policy Manual.

Teach 24 credit hours in the academic year or as otherwise specified by the faculty member's appointment notice; student course evaluations are to be completed in each course. This position is eligible for up to six credits of release time per academic year once your research portfolio has been reviewed and established. Faculty are expected to employ sound pedagogical practices and to use technology as appropriate, including the University's learning management system. Faculty shall assist with course revisions and curriculum development as needed.
Achieve appropriate student-learning outcomes in all courses taught.
Engage in scholarly pursuits pertinent to their academic discipline. Scholarship, as defined by the Boyer model, includes: scholarship of discovery, scholarship of integration, scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching, and scholarship of engagement.
Participate in service to the University, the community, and to their profession. Attend convocations, commencement exercises, and community meetings.
Participate in ongoing professional development.
Assist, advise, and mentor students enrolled at the University.
Fulfill the essential duties and responsibilities of a faculty member as described in Volume IV of the Gannon University Institutional Policy Manual which contains the approved policies and procedures of the University concerning the terms and conditions of faculty employment at the University.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field with significant professional and/or research experience in the broad area of solid mechanics, including dynamic systems and control, materials science, or manufacturing.

Rank: In accordance with the University's standards, the Provost and Vice President for Student Experience awards initial rank at the time of employment. Completion of dissertation is required for rank of Assistant Professor and placement on the tenure track.

Preferred Qualifications:

Computational and/or experimental background is a plus, and previous academic experience is preferred. Candidates expecting to complete their dissertation by August 1, 2023, will be considered.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a normal academic environment.

Work is performed in a normal classroom and office setting.
