Data Center Facilities Engineer 3/4

Data Center Services (DCS), a unit of Penn State IT (PSIT), is seeking a Mission Critical Facilities Engineer (Electrical Engineer). This position reports to the Director of Critical Facilities Services, and leads a small facilities team of 4 staff. This position requires an engineer experienced with building electrical systems to provide technical expertise to support operations of university data centers and critical facilities. The successful candidate must possess a strong understanding of redundant systems operations.

Typical Duties

Duties include review and critique of design documents, providing input to design professionals for projects on the University Park and Commonwealth campuses related to data centers and critical facilities; preparation of special studies, written reports and project scoping documents; developing new and implementing existing standards for the University's building systems; providing technical expertise to resolve complex system operational problems and deficiencies; working with trades supervisors and crews to improve building operation; participating in the Owner's project acceptance process to ensure successful transition from design, construction and commissioning to occupancy and continuing operations.

Typical Education and Experience

This position will be filled at a level 3 or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or related discipline or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

The successful candidate must be a leader that has our colleagues/customers best interest in mind, with a strong service management background and the ability to engage large groups with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget. Knowledge and understanding of building automation and control systems, are required. Previous data center experience is highly desired.

The location of this job is primarily in person at the University Park campus with some flexibility for occasional hybrid mix of in person and remote work. Candidates must live in the local area or be willing to travel to campus as needed at their own expense.

Operation of a motor vehicle as part of the position's duties and a valid driver's license is required. Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check, in addition to standard background checks.
