Position Description

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides high touch, high quality customer service to our community of faculty, staff, and students. We are looking for a results-oriented Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to bring strong skills and experience to our diverse team. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer:

Is experienced with Business Intelligence technology and architecture, including data warehousing, dimensional modeling, OLAP functionality, reporting tools, and other methods of information delivery.
Is responsible for Data Warehousing/Data Lake's design and implementation to support data reporting and analytic initiatives, and BI platforms & tools.
Is a self-starter possessing sound judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and is able to communicate effectively with a broad range of audiences.
Enjoys designing systems to meet business requirements and tackling complex analysis and design efforts.
Has strong technical skills, an inquisitive and positive nature, and balances shifting priorities for the greatest positive impact.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the full life cycle design, development, implementation, support, and performance tuning of the Enterprise Data Warehouse by adopting scalable data processing pipeline with a variety of technologies for orchestrating data movement, primarily with AWS Redshift, S3 (DataLake), Snowflake, Glue, Matillion, Athena, Lambda, and Microsoft SQL Server.
Implements, designs and supports an analytical data infrastructure, data models and tools.
Understand how disparate systems interface with each other for a holistic point of view, to provide the best solution.
Lead efforts to extract data from disparate systems such that it can be easily ingested by automated ETL/ELT tools.
Implement appropriate governance structure to prescribe data handling, protection, and user provisioning control.
Collaboratively develops business data transformation rules.
Documents data sources, data flow and transformation processes.
Participate in sprint planning and retrospectives.
Work with technical and non-technical people.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree and four years previous experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Demonstrated strength and expertise in SQL, data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing.
Experience in data management fundamentals and data storage principles.
Experience in data modeling techniques.
Experience in business analysis.
Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle.
Demonstrated ability to produce effective, professional, and accurate communications - verbal and written correspondence.
Ability to work successfully individually and in a team-oriented environment.
Proven ability to learn new technologies and creativity in applying them to business problems.
Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in higher education.
3+ years of experience with SQL and ETL/ELT tools.
2+ years of experience with AWS Cloud framework and Microsoft SQL Servers
2+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake)
Familiar with DevOps practices, specifically continuous integration, continuous deployment (AWS Code Deploy/Code Pipeline/Azure DevOps).
Experience with data visualization.
Experience with agile development practices.
Knowledge of database performance tuning concepts.
Understanding python, data mining algorithms, and machine learning is advantageous.
Able to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
