Tenure-track and Tenured Faculty Positions in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Fall 2025

Description

The Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas Austin has multiple faculty openings with a start date of Fall 2025 for tenure-track and tenured faculty positions. Candidates in the following areas of electrical and computer engineering will be considered, especially as they align with the strategic focus of the department. Candidates are encouraged to view these areas of emphasis in the broadest sense in determining whether they match their research skills and interests. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, openings are for tenure-track assistant professors only:

  • Core software engineering, including but not limited to adjacent topics such as mobile/IoT/cloud computing, secruity/privacy, HCI/ubicomp.
  • Core as well as Applied Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing. Tenured faculty candidates will also be considered for this position, with a preference for full professors.
  • Heterogeneous computer and integration including multi-server, multi-chip, emerging devices, packaging, interfacing, networking, and I/O.
  • Core as well as applied Electromagnetics.

Qualifications

Applicants should have received or expect to receive a doctoral degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline prior to August 16, 2025. Successful candidates are expected to mentor graduate students, teach our diverse undergraduate and graduate student populations, develop an externally sponsored research program, collaborate with other faculty from a wide range of backgrounds, and be involved in service to the university and profession.

Submission of applications by October 31, 2024, is strongly encouraged. Applications received after November 30, 2024, may not be given equal priority. Applicants whose research programs broadly align with the themes of scientific machine learning and/or generative AI are especially encouraged to apply, as multiple ECE positions in these areas may be available through UT Austin's Cluster Hiring Program in AI and Data Analytics (AI DA). Candidates who are particularly well suited to the AI DA cluster hiring program will be given the option to be considered for this opportunity and may be asked to submit additional materials to the cluster hiring committee. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, statement of research, statement of teaching philosophy, and a statement describing their mentoring philosophy in both research and teaching. At least three references (five for tenured positions) who will submit original letters of reference should be included.

Research statement:

Describe your research contributions to date, and your short and long-term plans for your research program. An effective research statement will highlight your individual contributions and describe past and potential future collaborations with others, both within the department and UT, as well as outside the campus. Please also highlight the impact of your research and describe any potential applications that benefit society.

Teaching statement:

Describe your teaching experience to date, your teaching philosophy, and your plans for teaching. Please identify undergraduate and/or graduate courses that you could teach, indicating for each your experience with the material and your interest and approach to teaching it. An effective teaching statement will describe your pedagogical approach in the classroom and convey how your prior experiences shape your teaching plans.

Mentoring statement:

Describe your mentoring experience to date and your mentoring philosophy in both teaching and research. Our undergraduate student body is predominantly domestic and in-state, while our graduate student body is largely international. Please highlight your experience (possibly drawing from your personal experience as a mentee) with or interest in mentoring and advising a diverse student body and how you plan to support the success of each individual student while ensuring their professional development, educational growth, and the ethical conduct of research and scholarship.
