Job Description
The Research Associate for Electrical and Computer Science will perform independent or supervisory roles in research activities in the field of Genomics requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment. Job duties include design and conduct of Illumina sequencing, single cell RNAseq and molecular biology experiments, prepare proposals for funding agencies, operation and maintenance of research equipment, supervision of graduate students and other lab/field personnel in research.
This position is on a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, plan, conduct and coordinate experiments in support of basic and translational genomics research including sequencing library preparation, DNA/RNA sequencing, data processing/analysis and wet lab validation of hypothesis generated by bioinformatics analysis of high throughput genomics data
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of genomics research, focusing on short read Illumina sequencing and single cell studies; keep detailed records of data
  • Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to analyze and interpret RNAseq, single cell RNAseq, whole genome sequencing and epigenetics experiments by performing statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results
  • Summarize results for inclusion in grants, scientific and clientele oriented publications
  • Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies including NIH, NSF and private foundations; maintain financial accounts related to research projects
  • Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research
  • Install, operate and/or repair research equipment including an Illumina sequencer, a fluorescence activated flow cytometer and cell culture equipment. Inventory and order laboratory supplies

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Two years of related professional experience.

  • MS or Ph.D. in Biological, biomedical or medical field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with some of the following techniques: mammalian cell culture, siRNA/Crisper methods to modulate gene expression, RNA/DNA isolation, qPCR, sequencing library preparation, Illumina sequencing, single cell isolation and sequencing, flow cytometry, cell growth, apoptosis, drug response and colony forming assays.
  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.
  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
