Job Description

This is a full-time teacher position predominately scheduled from 9:30-5:30, with the duties of planning activities for the extended day program in the afternoon. The float portion of the position is to provide coverage to three pre-k classrooms as needed. The position will be assigned to the Assistant Director's (AD) team and assist and operate as a member of that team. The AD will assign the float teacher to other classroom teams to substitute when necessary. This position will plan activities for the extended day program and assist other teachers in closing the center at 5:30 p.m.

The Extended Day and Float Teacher works as a part of a classroom teaching team as a substitute or additional teacher, cares for and teaches children in the assigned class while creating a safe nurturing environment for all children. The Extended Day and Float Teacher works effectively with parents and families to foster each child's growth and development, assist teachers in observing, assessing and documenting children's progress, plans and implement developmentally appropriate activities with closing teachers for Extended Day. In addition, the Extended Day and Float Teacher assures that activities and materials are developmentally appropriate and anti-biased, utilizes and supervises work study students assisting in afternoon activities and will communicate and consult with appropriate Center staff and possibly parents on any concerns. The Extended Day and Float Teacher will attend and participate in Center meetings, events, conferences, etc., abide by the schedules and work rules of the Center and University, including the ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in routine operations.


Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $41,150 to $51,450; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

Associates or BA degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, compatible philosophy regarding Early Childhood educ. and Center's mission, knowledge and ability to plan, implement and document and assess the effectiveness of developmentally appropriate curriculum goals based on MA Early Education Guidelines and Frameworks. Ability to work independently and cooperatively.

Preferred:

Two plus year's preschool teaching experience (ages 3-5),
